*started studying piano, orchestral conducting, theory, and composing in 1972 at the acad. of music in Maastricht and Liege with Jean Antonietti and Henri Delnooz, among other teachers. He has taught theoretical subjects, arranging, and ensemble accompanying at the Maastricht Academy of Music since 1980. Since 2008 Jan Ezendam has been a member of the research centre “Autonomy and the Public Sphere in the Arts”. His musical versatility is expressed in his various roles as composer, music theorist, conductor, and pianist.
*As a composer- has been awarded various commissions by the Province of Limburg, the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst, the LSO (Limburg symf. Orch.) Arka and other ensembles.
*has been on the board of the Dutch-Flemish Society for Music Theory since 2006. He is frequently invited to lecture and to be a juror at festivals, congresses, and composing competitions in the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and Poland; and in 2003 he gave a composing master class in Italy.
*has conducted countless performances with choirs, orchestras and soloists, with e.g. The Geleen-based choir of the ‘Kluis’-, the Roermond-based theatre chorus Orpheus and the Den Bosch-based chamber orchestra Musica Ducis the Euregio Chamberorchester, and the LSO.
*After a double-choir production of the ‘Stabat Mater’ (Religieus Festival Maastr.) in the 90-ties he starts directing multidisciplinary theatre projects like e.g. 1001 Nachten (Arabian Nights), combining choir with symph. ensemble, theatre, film and dance. Since 2010 he is the artistic leader of Mozartiana. In this ArtEvent he arranged and conducted ‘Mozartiana I’ in collab.w. LSO and ‘I-Multicelli’ In the final section the complete Requiem of Mozart is integrated (june 2010 Theater at the Vrijthof, LSO and The Choir of the ‘Kluis’). Three concerts of Mozartiana II will take place in sept.’12.



Mirel Iancovici (born 1951, Romania) has taught cello and chamber music at the Maastricht Academy of Music since 1989. He also teaches at the academy of music in Tilburg. He taught at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in the 1990s. He gives master classes and workshops within and outside of Europe.

He studied in Bucharest with Serafim Antropov, Radu Aldulescu, and Paul Tortellier. He has won innumerable awards, and his concerts have taken him to the large theatres of many European countries and the USA. He has worked with many renowned artists, including Claudio Abbado, Philppe Entremont, Herman Krebbers, and Han de Vries.

He is a member of the George Enescu American Society and the George Enescu Chamber Players. He conducts the I Multicelli Ensemble, is the artistic director of the Schubert & Co concert series in Maastricht, and is the initiator and leader of L'Arte del Violoncello at the Maastricht Academy of Music.

Mirel Iancovici enjoys exploring new ideas and performs a great deal of contemporary chamber music pieces. Composers such as Hans Kox, Anatol Vieru, Miriam Marbe, and Jan Ezendam have written for him. He has recorded a number of CDs and has published The Iron Fingers, an exercise book for advanced cellists.
